Cruelty Free - Vegan Pointe Shoes

As the World changes and the awarness of where things are coming from and what they are made of is increasing everyday I would like to add to this increasing a little something.

Maybe/hopefully after reading this article next time You will look at Your pointe shoes (if You still use traditional pointe shoes)  it will never look same to You.

Maybe next time You will buy non-lether and there for cruelty free pointe shoes.

Maybe You will go directly to Your director in company and order vegan pointe shoes for Yourself and will try to talk to Your colegues about going for CRUELTY FREE Pointe Shoes.

I simply have this dream that one day all dance shoes producers will turn too crulety free production.

Well yes...I HAVE A DREAM!

What means cruelty free - vegan pointe shoes?

Vegan - in diet when nothing is coming from animals - meat, eggs, milk, etc., in cosmetics and other products when here are no animal related substances, materials
Cruelty free - when nothing is tested on animals, nothing comes from animals causing suffering of animals in any possible way
Cruelty free - Vegan pointe shoes - shoes in which non of animal related materials, coming from animals materials were used and during production of these shoes animals didn't suffer and were not used in any way.

What usually Pointe Shoes are made of?

What we mostly see is a beautiful beige or pink material which is called satin and it is so delicate and gracefull that we have tendency to not think about anything else. I was also, before becoming vegetarian and then vegan, not paying attention to the rest.

But what about other elements? What about the insole?

Well insole is made of leather...

Yes - leather!

A skin of slaughtered animal suffering so called life in too small cage not even seeing the Sun, being taken away from mother and then skinned life.

I will not add anything more – it is for You now too reflect on.

Which companies produce Cruelty Free Vegan Pointe Shoes?*

The list unfortunatelyy is not long, but hopefully will be longer and longer, so here it is:

* if You are producer and You already opened possibility of ordering Cruelty Free Pointe Shoes, please contact me at: info@rebelballerina.com

What are possible disadvantages of Cruelty Free Vegan Pointe Shoes?

Gaynor to produce vegan pointe shoes is using simply more PLASTIC, because insole is entirely from plastic, so its not very ECO even if it is plastic which is easier to decompose, but... they are really not to be destroyed - I have this crazy strong feet that break all shoes right away...all besides Gaynors!!! So basically You can buy one of these and use them, use them, use them, instead of buying/using every month who knows how many shoes.

What could be changed:

- eco bag made from natural material
- noplatics filler inside of pointe shoes
- replace plastic elements to some other natural material like dried mushrooms material, which is already being used by some clothing/shoes producers

_____

F.R.Duval and Sansha are using materials that get soft in conntact with water of humidity and because of that may get too soft faster than leather once, but they are fully made of easier decomposing materials

What could be changed:

- replace easily taking humidity elements to some other natural stronger material like dried mushrooms material, which is already being used by some clothing/shoes producers
- changing package - no box with plastic element

Yet anyway...

No matter that what I mentioned above I still prefere to support producers who try to make a diffreence and I am so thankfull to them and I will only use pointe shoes coming from those producers.

I also believe that just like with space travels a trails need to made and those who will try will finally find a perfect sollution to create Eco Cruelty Free Vegan Pointe Shoes.

Think it is like in ballet and everything that has to be mastered – it takes time and many attempts.

As a dessert – short interviev with F.R.Duval representative

RB:What materials (exactly) are used during production of Vegan Pointe Shoes?
F>R>D: Its a long list but no animal related in any of them

RB: Will You bring these vegan models to offer or just special orders?
F>R>D:Soon we will offer these as well when finalized

RB:How long it takes to make special order?
F>R>D:This is now very difficult to answer as we have huge interest for the shoes and take many many orders... also the shoe is getting to be more known thanks to some good clients - originally it was 2 weeks lead-time now it could be longer

RB:Does Sansha have any special cruelty free policy? or maybe is working on some?
F>R>D:No, we still do not have any cruelty free policy but we also considering looking into such direction

RB:Have those materials been tested on feet? are they more/less long-lasting than leather?
F>R>D:Yes, have been tested on other type of shoes and now you and some other selected special dancers also have the opportunity experiment and give us feedback on them...

RB:what are advantages of using non-leather materials?
F>R>D:From a manufacturers pointe of view not much, but one for sure and that is colour consistency (when finalised it will be the same colour on all shoes, - and with natural leather its impossible)

RB:Do You think vegan shoes are the future of ballet world?
F>R>D:Not sure but certainly there is an increasing interest for this kind, and yes its possible that manufacturers of some types will change to only make Vegan pointes!

Let us all be positive and keep fingers crossed that ballet world will become one day a Cruelty Free Vegan World!
